With the kind support of The National Centre for Craft & Design (NCCD), I was delighted to commission David Gates to make five unique pieces of exhibition ‘furniture’ to showcase samples, models, small finished pieces, and photo and sketch books about five makers: Gail Baxter, Stella Harding, Carol Quarini, Margo Selby and David himself.
Image above: during installation at Platform Gallery in Clitheroe (January 2014), the distinctive forms of David’s pieces punctuated the length of this space.
These pieces toured with the exhibition until July 2014, to Bilston Craft Gallery, Platform Gallery and the National Craft Gallery in Kilkenny, and are now used for exhibition, retail and other display around the NCCD building at Sleaford. David has written about them on his blog.
They are each distinctive in shape and form, and needed a little thought when transporting between venues.
2014 update: At the conclusion of the exhibition tour, these tables were returned to The National Centre for Craft & Design, where they can be seen in regular use as display surfaces for the craft shop.
